Getting B2B leads is different from generating enquiries from individual consumers.

When someone needs a simple household service, they may see an advertisement, visit a landing page, and contact the business within a few minutes.

B2B customers usually take more time.

They may need to compare several suppliers, understand your company’s experience, check whether you serve their industry, discuss the purchase internally, and request quotations from different companies.

Based on the B2B campaigns we manage, there are two important things your business needs:

  1. A professional company website that builds trust.
  2. Strong visibility when customers search for your product or service on Google.

One without the other is usually not enough.

B2B Customers Research Before Contacting You

Most B2B customers do not immediately contact the first company they see.

They normally research the product or service first. They may search for different suppliers, open several websites, compare the available options, and choose a small number of companies to contact for quotations.

In many industries, the customer may request quotations from around three companies before making a decision.

This means your first objective is not only to appear on Google.

You also need to become one of the companies the customer feels confident contacting.

If your business cannot be found easily, you may never enter the customer’s shortlist. If your website does not look professional, the customer may remove you from the shortlist before speaking with you.

Why a Standalone Landing Page Is Often Not Enough for B2B

Landing pages can work well for simple services, promotions, or consumer campaigns.

However, using only a landing page is usually not the best approach when targeting B2B customers.

A typical landing page focuses on one offer and one action. It normally gives visitors enough information to submit a form or contact the business, but it may not provide enough information for a larger business decision.

B2B customers often want to learn more about:

  • Your company background
  • Your products and services
  • The industries you serve
  • Your experience
  • Your previous projects
  • Your customers
  • Your business location
  • Your team
  • Your working process
  • Your certifications or capabilities
  • Your after-sales support

The person visiting your website may also need to share it with a manager, director, procurement team, or other decision-maker.

A single landing page may not provide enough information for everyone involved in the decision.

This does not mean you cannot use a campaign-specific landing page.

The better approach is to build the landing page as part of a complete company website. Visitors can read the campaign message first, then explore your About Us page, service pages, case studies, portfolio, company profile, and other supporting information.

The landing page helps convert the traffic.

The company website builds the confidence needed to complete the enquiry.

Your Website Is Part of the B2B Sales Process

A professional B2B website should answer the questions a potential customer may have before requesting a quotation.

At minimum, the website should explain:

  • What your company provides
  • Who your services are suitable for
  • What problems you solve
  • Why customers should choose you
  • How your process works
  • What experience your company has
  • How customers can contact you

It should also be easy for visitors to move between your service pages, company information, previous work, and contact details.

Professional does not necessarily mean complicated.

A website can have a clean and simple design while still providing enough information for customers to evaluate the business properly.

What matters is whether the customer can quickly understand who you are, what you provide, and why your company should be included in their shortlist.

Target High-Intent B2B Keywords on Google Ads

Once you have a professional website, Google Ads can help you reach B2B customers who are already searching for your product or service.

The important word here is already.

Instead of advertising to a broad audience and hoping someone may be interested, Google Search Ads allow you to appear when someone searches for a relevant supplier, product, service, or solution.

Examples of high-intent searches may include:

  • Commercial cleaning company
  • Industrial air compressor supplier
  • Office renovation contractor
  • Accounting services for SMEs
  • ERP software provider
  • Corporate training company
  • Packaging manufacturer Malaysia
  • Request CCTV installation quotation

These searches suggest that the person is not only learning about the topic. They may already be looking for a company to contact.

However, not every keyword that appears relevant will generate qualified B2B leads.

For example, a company selling commercial equipment may receive many clicks from people looking for home-use products, replacement parts, repair instructions, jobs, or second-hand equipment.

This is why keyword research must be supported by search-term monitoring.

You need to check what people actually typed before clicking your advertisement. Irrelevant searches should be excluded so more of your budget goes towards potential customers.

Being Visible Is Not Enough, You Need to Be Near the Top

When B2B customers compare suppliers, they may not visit every company listed on the search results page.

They are more likely to begin with the companies that appear near the top.

From our experience managing B2B Google Ads campaigns, the placement of the advertisement can make a significant difference.

In some of our customer campaigns, we have seen click-through rates increase by as much as 500% when advertisements appear among the top results compared with less prominent placements.

This does not mean every campaign will achieve the same improvement. However, it shows why advertisement placement should not be ignored, especially for competitive B2B searches.

Inside Google Ads, you can review the Impr. (Top) % metric.

Google defines this as the percentage of your advertisement impressions shown among the top advertisements on the search results page. You can also review Impr. (Abs. Top) %, which measures how often your advertisement appeared as the first advertisement among the top advertisements. Top advertisements generally appear above the organic results, although Google notes that their placement can vary for certain searches.

These metrics help you understand whether your advertisements are receiving prominent visibility.

If your advertisement is frequently appearing in a less visible position, you may need to review:

  • Your bids
  • Your budget
  • Your keyword relevance
  • Your advertisement copy
  • Your landing-page experience
  • Your expected click-through rate
  • Your overall Ad Rank

Simply increasing the bid is not always the answer.

Your advertisements, keywords, and website must also be relevant to what the customer is searching for.

Aim to Become One of the First Three Companies Considered

For many B2B searches, the real competition is not every company in the market.

It is the small group of companies the customer decides to contact.

A potential customer may search on Google, open several results, and request quotations from three companies. Once that shortlist is complete, the customer may stop searching.

Your goal is therefore to become one of those first few companies.

To do that, two things must happen:

First, your advertisement or organic result must be visible enough to earn the click.

Second, your website must be professional enough to convince the visitor that your company is worth contacting.

A top advertisement with a weak website may generate clicks but very few suitable enquiries.

A strong website that nobody can find will also struggle to generate leads.

This is why we do not treat website design and Google Ads as two separate services. They are different parts of the same B2B customer journey.

Do Not Judge the Campaign by Clicks Alone

A high click-through rate is useful, but clicks are not the final business result.

You should also measure:

  • How many visitors submit an enquiry
  • How many enquiries are from businesses
  • How many leads match your target customer
  • How many request a quotation
  • How many quotations become sales
  • The average value of each customer
  • The cost of acquiring a customer

Imagine that one campaign generates 50 enquiries, but only five are from suitable businesses.

Another campaign generates 15 enquiries, but ten are qualified opportunities.

The second campaign may be much more valuable even though it generated fewer enquiries.

This is especially important in B2B marketing because one suitable customer may be worth significantly more than many low-quality leads.

Do not optimise only for the lowest cost per form submission.

Optimise towards qualified opportunities and actual sales.

A Practical B2B Lead Generation Setup

Based on what we see across our B2B clients, a practical setup should include the following.

1. Build a Complete Company Website

Create a professional website where customers can learn about your company, services, experience, industries, and previous work.

2. Create Focused Service Pages

Each important product or service should have its own page.

This helps customers find the exact information they need and gives Google Ads a more relevant page to send them to.

3. Target High-Intent Keywords

Focus on searches that indicate someone is actively looking for a supplier, service provider, contractor, manufacturer, consultant, or quotation.

4. Monitor Your Top Impression Rate

Check whether your advertisements are appearing prominently for your most valuable keywords.

Pay particular attention to Impr. (Top) %, click-through rate, conversion rate, and lead quality.

5. Review Search Terms Regularly

Remove searches from consumers, job seekers, students, information seekers, and other audiences that do not match your target customer.

6. Track Qualified Leads

Connect your advertising results to your sales process.

Record which leads are qualified, which receive quotations, and which become customers.

7. Respond Quickly and Professionally

B2B customers are often contacting several companies.

If your response is slow, unclear, or incomplete, another supplier may enter the conversation first.

Final Thoughts

To generate B2B leads, you need to understand how business customers make decisions.

They do not only look at your advertisement.

They research your company, compare different suppliers, visit multiple pages, and decide which businesses are professional enough to contact for a quotation.

A standalone landing page may not provide enough information to support this process. For most B2B companies, a complete and professional company website is a stronger foundation.

Google Ads can then help your business appear when customers search with clear buying intent. If you are still weighing the investment, our guide on whether Google Ads is worth it for small business may help.

However, visibility matters. If your advertisements rarely appear near the top, potential customers may complete their shortlist before they ever see your business.

The strongest approach is to connect your website, Google Ads, conversion tracking, and sales data.

At OneStopMaker, we do not look only at how many clicks or form submissions a campaign generates. We look at whether the campaign is helping the business enter the customer’s shortlist and generate real sales opportunities.

Because in B2B marketing, the goal is not simply to be found.

The goal is to become one of the companies the customer asks for a quotation.
